Sense8: so much joy

As I've mentioned before in this space, I've been doing a Sense8 rewatch with
the_shoshanna.
Today we watched the first half of the two-hour special that went in between season 1 and season 2, "Happy F*cking New Year". Which included the birthday dance party sequence.
And it occurred to me: I don't think that any other show I've seen has ever achieved such incredible sustained periods of transcendent joy. Like, going on for minutes and minutes, and bringing happy tears to my eyes and giving me ALL THE FEELS.
(I think this show also had the most complicated filming situation of any show ever. Filming not episode-by-episode but continent-by-continent, flying the entire cast from city to city to film the ends of sentences that they'd started months ago in different time zones. I am in awe.)

Date: 2020-09-03 12:42 pm (UTC)The show is stunningly beautiful, the premise is creative, the characters are interesting and diverse, and did I mention ALL THE FEELS? (But you have to push through those first three episodes of confusion!)

I hope Scintillation gets to happen again, one of these days! I have my membership already, for whatever year it ends up being.

Date: 2020-09-05 02:08 am (UTC)Not really! Scintillation's predecessor, Farthing Party, started out as a launch party for one of Jo's books, but Scintillation is a more generalized science fiction literary con.

Date: 2020-09-04 12:04 am (UTC)It had its flaws, but 99 % of this series was pure joy, pure love, pure acceptance and loyalty and friendship and awe. It was *amazing*
