Xander actually did Larry a favor, inadvertantly, and the rest of the world, too, because Out Larry was so much less of a jerk than closetted Larry.
Oh my, yes! It's a nice little arc that Larry has, starting out as a jerk and then finding redemption through honesty and self-knowledge, then joining the good fight and dying a hero (twice, if you count the Wish!verse). Sort of like Spike or Cordelia in miniature.
