My social life and Buffy fit together nicely tonight.

I just watched "The Harvest" and "Once More, With Feeling" with two friends. They came over to my place, K-the-boy brought leftover Chinese food, K-the-girl petted my cat, and I made salad. It was wonderful.

New things I noticed in "The Harvest" this time:

Hee, Xander was a wannabe skaterboy! Anyway, he was riding a skateboard (badly) in "Welcome to the Hellmouth," and he had the wallet chain. His clothes had a skater look, too - the big pants, the camo shirt. I guess it was just a phase.

It's very possible that Jesse, for the brief time he was a vampire, was actually part of Spike and Angel's extended family. Odds are good he was sired by the Master or Darla, or possibly by one of the Master's other get.

Xander kicks a garbage can when Jesse dies; Xander punches a wall when Joyce dies. He expresses grief by hitting inanimate objects. Not a terribly surprising thing, but interesting to see the long-term character continuity.

Willow was a hacker before she ever started dabbling in the Dark Arts. Okay, okay, I did know this - but watching "The Harvest" really drove it home. She was doing illegal things for fun because she liked feeling smart and powerful. Her character arc starts right there.

There's the hacking, and there's the bit (and right now I can't remember if it's in WttH/Harvest, or a slightly later S1 episode; I remember character bits as bits, and not as part of an episode--which is much as I remember events in my life, as random bits) where she tells Cordy and Harmony that the next thing to do with their computer assignment is to "Deliver" it (by pressing that key marked DEL). Not that it wasn't earned, but still, it's doing something not-nice because she has knowledge/power someone else doesn't.

Dark!Willow should not have surprised anyone.

I think that Joss and co have always been brilliant at making retroactive continuity work for them.

In Joss's commentary on the first episode, he said tha Xander was gonna be a skater until they realised how difficult and expensive it was to film him on it with their tiny crew and budget, (Sunnydale High consisted of just one corridor shot at many different angles in Season 1!) so they had him with it for a few more eps, just for continuity, and then it disappears.
