Just finished watching Angel Season 3.
May. 6th, 2004 01:21 amAnother DVD binge with my husband has brought me to the end of Angel's season 3, and I want to let some reactions fly. (Just quickly, and then I'll get back to writing!) Oh, and obviously if you reply to this post, I don't want any spoilers past Season 3!
First of all, the very final images: Angel descending into the deep ocean in his coffin, intercut with Cordy ascending into heaven on a white beam of white. Wow to the visuals.
And then, wow to the surprise! I've been reading fanfics and fan sites all week, and I've already read the transcripts of Buffy up to the end, so I've been plenty spoiled for a lot of things. I knew before Conner was even conceived that he would be, and how he'd be born, and that Wesley would somehow cause him to disappear and come back 16 years old and hating Angel. I didn't know any more details than that, so I was pretty pleased with all the twists and turns. (My God, did Holtz ever blindside me. I totally fell for his story. I thought love had conquered all. That man is cold.)
But wow. Cordelia. That is big time, and I'm so amazed and pleased that I managed not to be spoiled for it! And I'm so impressed with the way her character has grown since season 1 of Buffy - to the extent that I can actually believe in her being chosen for this ascension.
I really wonder what, if any, role she'll have in the next season.
I felt so bad for Fred and Gunn at the very end - "Where is everyone?" They're so alone. But hey, at least they have each other, which is more than anyone else can say.
I hate how everyone treated Wesley. They treated him like he did the worst thing anyone ever did. Worse than Angel locking Dru and Darla in with all the lawyers. (OK, that was pretty satisfying, but it was wrong! wrong! wrong!) He was trying to fucking save Conner, and protect Angel, and yeah he shouldn't have acted alone without the team (but where have we heard that refrain before? Oh yeah, like all the time, in reference to everybody), and yeah it went horribly wrong, but damn people. What happened to your love and loyalty?
Hm. Well, that was fun. Back to the writing. Spike and Xander in London, yay!
