How to make it pretty?

romanyg, I feel like I should actually make my journal pretty. Problem: I have no idea how! I have a feeling it's something to do with these mysterious "styles," but no idea where to start.
Also, no graphics software. No way to make pretty banners. Um, anyone?
See, someone does one nice thing for me and all of a sudden I'm asking for a dozen more favours!
On an unrelated note: when I was buying milk at the Couche Tard earlier, a Spike lookalike walked in. He had the coat, the boots, the hair! His face didn't really look like JM's, but in terms of outfit, dude was Spike. Fun. I tried very hard not to stare.
