shadowscast: First Slayer shadow puppet (Default)
So, as you probably know by now if you've been making any effort to follow this mess (or even if you haven't), LJ has finally made an official post in LJ-biz. As usual, there's a whole lot of "clarifications" by various LJ-staffers buried in the 5000 comments beneath; aura281 has very kindly made a round-up post listing all of those that she could find (including brief summaries of what issue each one addresses).

In all honesty, I haven't read all the mod comments. There's a lot of them. I did read the original post, of course, and those mod posts which seemed like they'd relate to the things concerning me the most.

Things aren't a whole lot clearer than before, but as far as I can tell it ultimately boils down to: if you want your journal to be safe from permanent, no-warnings deletion, you shouldn't post anything anything that's sexually explicit and involves characters who are (or might be!) under eighteen. Text seems to be safer than visual art for the time being, but they're not making any guarantees on that front.

That's just as far as I could tell, mind you.

The first part is about: how does this affect me personally? )

The second part is about: how do I feel about LJ today? )

The last part is about the practicalities of moving, and/or not. )

Okay, I've definitely rambled for too long at this point. I just want to share a couple links that I found today to help deal with the nitty-gritty details of moving:

I didn't realize I could have a navigation bar at the top of my window in InsaneJournal just like in LJ! But I totally can! You can turn it on here:
http://www.insanejournal.com/manage/settings

And how about the problem of trying to use username tags when mirroring to multiple journals? Yesterday I noticed the problem; today solutions are showing up all over my flist! (I love you guys. Collectively. You are big with the problem-solving!) In case anyone hasn't seen it yet: mhari's made a handy fake-usertag generator! (So if you're trying to reference an LJ user, for instance, the tag won't show up as an IJ user when you post to IJ.)

Of course, IJ has a different kind of little person symbol than LJ does, and the fake tag generator just makes them all LJ-style, so if you really want to get fancy you can use this code (which I gakked from, er, somebody!):

< a href="http://www.insanejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=shadowscast">< img src="http://insanejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif" border="0" style="vertical-align: bottom;">< /a>< a href="http://www.insanejournal.com/users/shadowscast/">< span style="font-weight: bold;">shadowscast< /span>< /a>

which does this: shadowscast

(only, remove the space after each < and replace "shadowscast" with some other username, obviously!)

Tomorrow, I swear, if I post anything here it will be about the Buffyverse or fanfic or, you know, something fun. Gah.
