Today one of the headlines in the entertainment section of the Globe and Mail (Canada's most respected national newspaper) is:
Hitting pay dirt with Brangelina pix
By "Brangelina" they mean Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
Is it my imagination, or did they just steal that couple-naming convention directly from fandom? Has this been happening for long?
By the way, does anyone know in which fandom that convention originated? And when? I first became aware of it when I joined Buffyverse fandom (Spander, Spuffy, Bangel and so on...) but I'm aware they use it in Smallville too.

In other news, I've been re-watching early BtVS S3.
I'm feeling pissed off at the reception Faith got at the beginning (Buffy is snarky about Faith pigging out at dinner with her mom; it's painfully clear that Faith was frikkin' starving).
I'm feeling annoyed at Buffy for her whole "nobody has a right to criticize me in any way because they don't know what I've been through, and I refuse to tell anyone what I've been through because they wouldn't understand" attitude plus her lack of apology for leaving her non-superpowered friends to pick up the slaying slack over the summer. The bit where she tells Xander the "Nighthawk" thing is pathetic gets to me especially; he and the others were at serious risk of death all summer, and fighting monsters isn't even their "destiny," they're doing it because once their eyes had been opened they weren't willing to go back to doing nothing in the face of daily horror. They're not superheroes; they're just heroes.
*sigh* And then I remind myself that after all, she's seventeen years old. Seriously. Of course the world revolves around her and nobody understands her and so on.
Meanwhile, I find myself strangely craving Giles/Ethan, or maybe even Giles/Joyce. (Mmm, Band Candy. "Oooo, copper's got a gun." ::shiver::) Or possibly a dark S3 AU where Cordelia or maybe even Willow didn't survive that summer, and when Faith comes to town Xander hooks up with her.
