Yes, exactly—right at the start of the first episode, we had no expectations yet about what would or wouldn't be in the 'verse.
It was only when I was re-watching after seeing the whole two seasons that the flying car suddenly stood out, like "What WAS that?"
I guess that was an early hint that there was something weird going on with Reggie, in terms of his technology level versus everybody else's! (Also see: his robot nanny, his uplifted chimpanzee servant, and the fact that he sent his son to live on a private moon base, I guess!)
