My first fannish years were totally internet-less. At best I was discussing stuff with my friends - but I boy, I was fannish about a lot of stuff in the 90s (some were old, some were current - like Due South, and X-files, and Homicide, and Sharpe) I watched a lot of tv during teenage years... instead of going out and doing weird and dangerous stuff like normal people.
I missed the mailing lists, and never was comfortable with boards, so I basically really started with Buffy and lj (lurking since 2002!) I think I was most active around 2005-6, and then slowly Buffy fandom got quieter and I never got passionate enough to really feel fannish again until now.
Having kids also was a factor - unless we can count parenting as another fandom :))
And now I am addicted to your comments on AO3 :)))
