I stopped after two episodes because Bojack himself was just constantly horrible to everybody
Well, that doesn't really change...

and I was squicked by the fact that the show seemed to be pushing towards a romance between Bojack and Diane.
... It gets far worse. :(

The show really is doing quite a lot of interesting things, and focusing on being curious about Todd's development decreased the amount I was put off by Bojack himself.
An excellent way of watching. All the supporting characters are fabulous, and their arcs often very different to what you would expect.

Also it's just one of the funniest and most innovative shows ever. Hope you enjoy (despite... *waves hands* everything)
